Indian Association is a socio- political and non-profit making organisation. It was founded by Rastraguru Surendranath Banerjea alongwith his compatriots like Ananda Mohan Bose, Monomohan Ghose,Reverend Krishna Mohan Banerjea ,Shivanath Shastri, Dwarakanath Ganguli and others on 26 July in the year1876 at Albert Hall ,now known as Coffee House near College Street after being influenced by the heroic humanistic social and political movements and unitary sense of the then great leader of Italy, Joseph Mazzini for the unification of Italy in the 19th century . About 700--800 highly educated bright stars attend ed the meeting. A strong Executive Committee consisting of 28 members from all sections of people was formed where Ananda Mohan Bose was the Secretary and Monomohan Ghose was the Chairman. Surendranath Banerjea was the moving spirit, Ananda Mohan Bose was the leading part and Monomohan Ghose was the leading spirit of the Indian Association.
The formation of the Exicutive Committee had created tremendous impact in the minds of the educated middle class youth as well as the sophisticated people of that time .Pundit Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, a great moderate leader and social reformer of Bengal Renaissance, offered his best wishes : ' With the formation of the Executive Committee of the Indian Association a great deficiency of the country will have to be removed.'
Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, a great novelist, wrote: ' At last , l hope, and an association is going to be established which willl be able to speak and moved sufficiently on behalf of the Indian public ' .
